10 Places for Great Niche Ideas

Sometimes all you have to do is get a drink from the fridge, take a 10 minute break, and BAM there’s a new niche idea.  Other times it can take a little longer, here’s 10 places that I’ve found to really help get the Niche Ideas flowing.

10 – Take a break.  Grab a drink, take a leak, notice the bath towels…hm…bath towel site…maybe?  But taking a short break and giving your mind a chance to clear itself is always a great way to get a niche idea.

9 – Take a drive.  Take notice to all the little things that you might not normally pay attention to.  What is that park bench advertising?  What kind of businesses seem to have a full parking lot, even at 2 in the afternoon, what are they selling?

8 – Take a walk.  Grab the dog, leave the car keys.  Take it slow, enjoy the air, and be a little snoopy…not stalker like though.  What are people up to?  Are all the kids in the street playing with a new toy, does it seem like everyone has a satellite, do you see any hints as to what people do for their hobby?

7 – Take a look in the Yellow Pages.  What types of businesses are advertising there?  Could you prospect them for an offline client?  Could you have an ebook about how to start a business like theirs written?  What types of problems are these business solving, could you help solve those problems online?

6 – Watch some tv.  Pay attention to what they’re doing.  Fishing, driving on a road trip, having a baby, going to a sports event.  Everything they’re doing has tons of keywords and niche ideas, just waiting to be dominated!

5 – Stumble the net.  If you’ve never heard of Stumble Upon, let me help introduce you to a fun site that allows you to not only add your site and others, but also visit a random website.  You can even add it to your tool bar, which makes it really convenient.

4 – Article Directories.  You might not think of these as a good place to get niche ideas, but boy oh boy are they!  Here’s a chance to see what other marketers are currently promoting.  Just take a look at the recently released articles, other articles in that category, and related sections of the directory.

3 – Chat up a friend.  Find out what their hobbies, find out where they like to vacation, what kind of movies they like, what kind of problems they’re facing in their life.  If they had won the lottery what would they spend all that money on?

2 -  The Mall.  Not only is a great place to pick up clothes, but niche ideas are every where in a mall.  If you go to the mall and didn’t get a new niche idea, you weren’t in the right store.. keep looking.

1 – The Magazine Stand.  How about a few hundred niches, new products, fads, and opinions all in one easy to use location?  Niche ideas never come any easier than at a magazine stand.  Pick up a few magazines, and let the creative juices flow.

Once you get a few niche ideas, just plug a keyword in the Niche Research Tool, and it’s all down hill from there.  Make sure if you’re going out to get niche ideas that you have a way to record your ideas!  There’s nothing worse that getting a great idea, and forgetting it, but only remembering that it was something really good.
