Copywriting Tip – Belongs on a Sticky Note

Yesterday, I attempted to link back to a post that had magically disappeared from WP. Normally I would just go on my way and not think twice about it, but the information that was in the post was so powerful, it now resides on a Lime Green Sticky Note, hanging on my monitor.

I think the last time I used a sticky note, I put gum in it…probably more than 6 months ago! To say the message made an impact on me, would be a slight understatement. Want to know what the note says? Well read on for that, but first it’s important to know how I came about it.

You see, this blog is pretty new. I’ve only recently started adding content to it. I still have some initial start up work I need to do on it.. get a decent looking theme… and a really good free report to give away being the two most important projects. My focus on this blog is to help internet marketers improve their business. I came to the conclusion that a Free Copywriting Report would be a powerful tool with the ability to help IM entrepreneurs improve their online business.

As quickly as the idea came, so did the fact that I have no idea at all about Copywriting. But I knew that I could easily outsource this project to a fantastic copywriter. Since I know nothing about the topic, I started doing a little research about copywriting. While I was reading a free report, I noticed a video in the sidebar of the webpage and decided to check it out. What was said in the video blew my socks off.

You see, I had just finished reading a report that said you should Tell not Show. Talk about how you’re making X amount of dollars a day using (insert process here), but don’t SHOW them how you’re doing it.

But the video said the EXACT opposite, so it quickly grabbed my attention to see where they were going with the tip. Show don’t Tell. Remember earlier in this post when I mentioned that the information from my missing post was so powerful that it now resides on a Lime Green Sticky Note, hanging from my monitor?

I could have easily said, the post was great, I’m going to rewrite it. But instead I showed you not only that it was important information, but I drew a mental picture for you. Almost everyone who reads that will imagine the lime green sticky note, and many will also think of it hanging from a monitor.

The reason it’s now there is because using this simple writing method, you stimulate your readers. You get their mind flowing, their juices flowing, their interests peaked. On the right page it can increase your ctr, opt-ins, or orders.
